Prototyping

Here lists some tiny game prototypes that I developed for learning purposes

Sad Ghosts

This is a 2d and 3d combined "arena shooter" game prototype, you play as an angel slime trying to beat off all the sad ghosts swarming you. There are different types of traps and props in the arena that you can use for your advantage if executed well (or vice versa.).

Featuring Jerome Tieh as the artist and Zining Wang as the co-developer. My role was to design and develop the main gameplay mechanics.

Utilizing the props and traps in the level is crucial as the gun itself wouldn't keep up with the increasing enemy wave size. I designed the game that the players will have to watch closely to those props as they also damages the player.

Temple Bear Adventure

A 2d top-down puzzle game prototype centered around the unique flashlight mechanic and basic color theory.
Developed collaboratively with Frank Liu (the artist) and Zining Wang, I focused on designing and refining the core gameplay mechanic and puzzles in the level.

While the main flashlight mechanic was designed first, I had to think about how I can adapt it into actual puzzles in different ways.
There could be more limitation on the player's move area and much closer placement of totems for some new puzzles that require the player to really strategize the positioning and timing for color changing of the flashlight.

3D Platformer Prototype

In a top-down 3d action game, you play as the test subject trying to elimiante the guards and escape from a labatory of two levels.
It's a collaborative project with Frank Liu, Victor Owolabi, and Zining Wang.
My role was the level design, I utilized probuilder to greybox the level.

Trinity

A 2D local multiplayer game for 6 players. It's a 3v3 game, each player is connected with the other two members of the team with a laser beam that would disappear when there are obstacles in between. Have the opponent go across your laser beams to score points for the team and eventually win the match.
Developed collaboratively with Frank Liu and Zining Wang. My role was to create sprites and create the arena layout.

Chicken Platformer Prototype

An individual 2D platformer prototype for learning tilemaps, 2D physics, 2D level design, and skeletal sprite animation rigging.

An individual project for learning and level design experiment. I focused on creating many varied level experiences with limited elements and assets.
